The Purple Coneflower is exceptionally easy to grow from seed. First till the upper 2 inches of soil up, rake even, and distribute the seed. One can rake in the seed gently, but don't rake it too deep. Now water every day until the green shoots emerge, and then water every other day. Watering is extremely important early on in the growing process. Dehydration can kill the young shoots. These should flower the first year if planted early enough. Once established, purple coneflower will be a delight to behold, and birds love them for their seeds. They will spread naturally, so they will need to be thinned occassionally.
