I live in the Utah desert and have one small garden in my yard. I don't need any compost, but don't want to throw vegetable scraps in my garbage (I don't eat meat). I bought this green cone about 6 years ago, and it has worked very well even in this dry climate. We use it for tea bags, coffee grounds and all organic matter, probably about a quart size can every day. It's important to add water occasionally, though I don't usually use any accelerator. I rigged a drip from my sprinkler drip system to go in there in the summer months, and that was a good addition in this desert climate.
Two years ago the lid cracked, and I bought a new one from the manufacturer.
Just wanted to add this review, because I think this is a great product for people who don't want to really deal with compost, but don't want to throw food scraps in the garbage. I'm surprised by the bad reviews I saw here, because I was recommending this to everyone I knew in the first few years I had it, and still am really pleased with it.
Between the green cone and recycling, my actual trash is very minimal and does not smell bad.
