(More customer reviews)I bought this with the white base - see my full review there. The hot water only touches glass; the plastic comes in either white or black and serves as the base. The hole is pretty big but works with a paper filter ( I use #4 but you could use #2 or Hario sells its own filters). Did fine in dishwasher. Not very heavy (lighter than ceramic). Instructions and box are all written in Japanese but I don't think I missed anything by not understanding Japanese. I bought it from Prima Supply which answered my questions within two hours and with good detail. Very pleased!
